Many of us enjoy having a collection of amusing coffee table and bathroom books. But this one is quite a bit different.
In this article we’ll be discussing F is for Flush’s Kickstarter campaign. By the end of this article, you should have everything you need to know in order to make an informed decision about whether or not you want to back this product.
The Crowdfunding Campaign
So, what is F is for Flush about? It’s 650 words, chosen at random by the author and then given made- up definitions. There are 25 words from each letter of the alphabet. Well, except for Z. 14 of the words listed under Z are “Zebra”.
Instead of picking up a dictionary, he just went with the one word he knew started with Z. This one instance is pretty indicative of the entire theme of the book and what you can expect.
But wait, there’s more!
This product is listed as a “comic book”. I personally grew up with comic books, so I knew that this particular book didn’t qualify as one. But just to verify my suspicions (and for laughs), I looked up the definition of “comic book” in the dictionary (which I feel this book more closely resembles).
Oxford Languages says a comic book is “A magazine that presents a serialized story in the form of a comic strip, typically featuring the adventures of a superhero.” So, this book definitely doesn’t qualify.
Our Analysis and Review
With such a creative concept, this book is sure to have brilliant artwork, right? Probably not. When you back the book, you receive a word to illustrate. Maybe more than one.
At the time of this writing, there are 98 backers, and 650 words. The author also wants to make a cover that depicts all of the the backer-created illustrations.
They’re going to have to be pretty small and wrap all the way around it.
Oh, and you can opt out of illustrating the book, as well. So, he’ll likely need way more than 650 backers in order to illustrate it, because many people will choose not to. It would be a really interesting idea if it were a well-written, much- acclaimed book. But in this instance, making the backers both buy AND illustrate the book just seems like a giant cash grab.
Wrap Up
So, does F-is-for-Flush live up to the hype? Maybe. To me personally, I think it would be fun to back the project and to see what will we get at the end. But anyway, it’s on you. If you felt like wanted to help this campaign, feel free to click the black button below to the Kickstarter.
